Colonia Condesa

While travelling, have you ever looked up and said, ‘Oh, how I’d love to live there!’

I’ve been doing that for years in Mexico City, and it’s the thought that inspired my walking tour of Colonia Condesa.

Colonia Condesa is one of Mexico City’s most desirable residential neighborhoods. Savvy Mexicans, foreigners, artists, pet lovers and those seeking a relaxed, European lifestyle are drawn here. Condesa’s parks and tree-lined streets are ideal for aimless meandering, or just hanging out in one of its many outdoor cafés.

La Condesa, developed during the 1920’s and 1930’s, offers a wealth of Art Deco and Modernist architecture, with over 400 catalogued and protected buildings. In addition to my ‘dream houses’, I’ll also show you its two lovely parks, as well as plazas, shops, restaurants and churches–and I’ll tell you where to get the best desserts.

Although known as a hip and trendy neighborhood, Condesa still retains a feeling of yesteryear, with its slower pace of life, and its abundance of greenery. After the frenzy of the Centro Histórico, this neighborhood will be a pleasant surprise for many visitors. I hope to impart an appreciation for the relaxed yet cosmopolitan life style that Condesa offers, and for the characteristics that make it unique.

The tour lasts approximately 3 hours, depending on the number of stops you want, but be prepared for at least two full hours of walking—wear comfortable shoes!

The tour costs $250 US for 1 to 4 people, $25 extra per person with a maximum group size of six. Any food or drink costs are extra.

About Me

A native of New York City, I moved to Mexico in 1997 to continue my career as a painter and printmaker. I am the author of ‘Mexico City: an Opinionated Guide for the Curious Traveler’ which has garnered over 180 four- and five-star reviews on Amazon.

As an amateur architect, I’ve designed more than a dozen houses in Mexico. Currently I am working on a book about my travels to India. I live in Condesa with my partner Nicholas Gilman and our dog Lucy. I am fully vaccinated.

For nearly 25 years I have called Mexico City home. I’ve explored the city on foot extensively, now often with Lucy (she can accompany us on the tour by request).

I hope to share with you my enthusiasm for Mexico City.
