‘ROAMING LA ROMA’

a tour with Lydia Carey

When I moved to Colonia Roma almost a decade ago, I immediately fell in love with the lively outdoor cafes, its old-fashioned, hand-painted advertisements, the delicious street food, and the neighborhood’s colorful Mercado Medellin. That love affair led me to write my book “Mexico City Streets: La Roma” and it’s why I continue to be enchanted by this turn-of-the-century neighborhood and its delightfully walkable streets and parks.

On the Roaming La Roma tour we’ll explore the local market and taste some of the delectable treats there. We will spend time walking through the neighborhood, ogling its dramatic architecture. I will give you context, both historic and current, for what makes this neighborhood so special, and how it has evolved into one of the most popular areas in Mexico City for locals and tourists alike.

Along the way you’ll learn about famous Romanos, both Mexican and foreign, who once occupied its buildings, as well as enjoy some of the best green spaces and avenues of the city. We end with a cool drink on a breezy terrace from where you can set out, refreshed to explore the rest of the city. After a mellow three hours roaming La Roma I can guarantee you will be more Mexico City savvy, and with a hankering to spend more time in my favorite barrio in the capital.

The tour price is $85 USD per person for two people, with a decrease in price as you add more people to your group. For larger groups please contact Lydia directly for a quote.
